Variants

Due to the nature of an open source project the OpenVario comes in different variants. The following table provides an overview about the variants, which have been realized successfully. If you decide to build a variant listed in the following table, the build process will run smoothly, because the OpenVario developers did a great job for you before. Implementing a new display variant requires the change of the script.bin and the uboot of the image. The availability of a detailed datasheet is mandatory to manage the creation of a new script.bin. Further the display connector located on the adapterboard may also require a change, eventually followed up by a redesign of the adapterboard. If you have succeeded to build a new variant, please drop us a mail with variant info and project status. We will include it in the table as soon as possible. Common to all variants are the RJ45-Board and the Sensorboard.

Software Images for all Variants

The Images can be downloaded from the OpenVario-FTP-Server:

http://ftp.openvario.org/images/

The filenames are composed according to the following rules:

OpenVario-linux-ov-image-testing-glibc-ipk-15350-openvario-7lvds.rootfs.gz
                            | | | |
                            | | | |____file type: gz / manifest
                            | | |____display type: 7lvds / 57lvds / 43rgb / ....
                            | |____5-digit version number ([year][day of year])
                            |____status: testing / no status means stable

If the filename contains “testing”, the image may exhibit experimental behaviour and you have to expect more bugs as usual. The first two digits of the version number indicate the year of release, the last three digits indicate the date of the year. The file type indicates whether the file is a gz-archive (the image itself compressed in an archive) or manifest (an overview about the included contents) If you are unsure about the version number of the image you are currently using, check it out here: System Info. A revision history of all released images can be found in the release notes. Here are the instructions how to write the image to a microSD-card.

Housing Variants

The housing dimensions (at least the front part) are mainly depending on the display size. The backside can usually be re-used for any display size. There are Auminium-housings out there as well as 3D-printed housings in different sizes. Builders are welcome to post fotos of their housing and front frame variant here. As soon as we have collected sufficient material, a Gallery of Housing Variants will come…

Input Devices

The OpenVario supports several Input Devices for User Interaction.
